The first day of spring gave us a beautiful big eastern brown snake, our second for the season. This lovely creature had been seen popping in and out of a hide in the rock retaining wall for a week or so prior to this catch, and we had been visiting the property over the previous three days to peg its routine.
As we picked him up we also noticed large amounts of scarring around the neck and along the back, particularly severe near the middle. You can see this quite easily in the above video. Despite this the snake was active and healthy looking, and was shortly released. All in all, a successful start to spring!
Cheers,
Janne
